Taking it slow is key for this polar expedition where risks are very high. The IsSnigil ("ice-snail") has to be designed and built. Coincidence is I skyped recently with&amp;nbsp;American explorer Julian Monroe Fisher. He showed me a drawing his daughter&amp;nbsp;Lili Fisher made. The drawing is exactly what I needed to help me focus: full of vivid colors and taking it slow, which is the philosophy of the expedition. It's not about a record but about exploring Iceland in an unseen way on its dark side.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;FR&lt;/b&gt;: Comme je ne suis pas prêt, l'expédition est décalée à Janvier 2013. Il faut concevoir et construire la IsSnigil ("escargot des glaces"). Je prend le temps de bien préparer cette expédition polaire très risquée. Drôle de coïncidence hier lors d'un skype avec l'explorateur Américain&amp;nbsp;Julian Monroe Fisher. Il me montre un dessin fait par sa fille&amp;nbsp;Lili Fisher. Il me donne une énergie positive pour me donner du courage: des couleurs vives et y aller patiemment, la philosophie de l'expédition. Le but n'est pas un record mais explorer la face obscure et méconnue de l'Islande.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;NL&lt;/b&gt;: Aangezien ik nog niet klaar ben, is de expeditie verschoven naar januari 2013. Ik neem de tijd voor de voorbereiding van deze geriskeerde poolexpeditie. De&amp;nbsp;IsSnigil ("Ijs-slak")&amp;nbsp;moet ontworpen en gemaakt worden.&amp;nbsp;Toevallig skyped ik gisteren met Amerikaanse ontdekkingsreiziger Julian Monroe Fisher. Hij toonde me een slak getekend door zijn dochter Lili Fisher. Die geeft me een positieve energie die mij aanmoedigd: heldere kleuren en geduld, de filosofie van de expeditie. I discussed the Iceland trek expedition's goals with His Excellency&amp;nbsp;Thórir Ibsen and his counselor for Education and culture. The ambassador finds the expedition very challenging and also likes the idea of linking the expedition to education. He advised me to work thoroughly on the idea of the photo exhibition I'd like to set-up, which I call "The dark side of Iceland". I was given a contact of a geologist who could be interested to help me with info about the Icelandic geology.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;FRA: Aujourd'hui, j'ai rendu visite à Son excellence&amp;nbsp;Thórir Ibsen, le nouvel ambassadeur d'Islande à Bruxelles. Je lui ai décrit mes idées et les buts du projet Iceland Trek. La présence du conseiller pour l'éducation et la culture m'a également permis de parler du projet éducatif et de l'expo photo "The dark side of Iceland" que je voudrais réaliser. L'ambassadeur comprend les challenges auxquels je vais me confronter et il a apprécié les projets liés à l'expédition. This year I went back and tested alpine ski touring or backcountry skiing. The snow was much better this year, I had good weather during 2 days than snow on the last day which is great for training. My boots were a bit too tight, which resulted in blisters to provoke a small wound and infection.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FRA: L'année passée, j'avais testé le ski de rando nordique. Cette année je suis retourné dans le Vercors pour m'initier au ski de rando Alpin. La neige était meilleure cette année, j'ai eu 2 journées ensolleilées et 1 jour de neige, ce qui est bien pour l'entraînement. The Iceland Met Office published 2 very interesting reports: one about the &lt;a href="http://en.vedur.is/about-imo/news/2010/nr/2112"&gt;fairly warm year of 2010 in Iceland&lt;/a&gt; and one about the &lt;a href="http://en.vedur.is/hydrology/articles/nr/2110"&gt;consequences of the ashes of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption&lt;/a&gt;. It's very interesting and you can see that I experienced big above average river floods all around the Vatnajökull. This shows my not so idiot reaction of walking onto 2 glaciers without crampons! The water discharge of the Jökulsá á Fjöllum is roughly 40% higher in July 2010 (black) compared to the previous 4 summers. I've been using several times satellite imagery, the last times was to monitor the flood of Lake Eyre in Australia in 2007 &amp;amp; 2008 to prepare for the &lt;a href="http://simpson-desert-trek.blogspot.com/"&gt;Simpson desert crossing&lt;/a&gt;. It seems this year the snow cover isn't too bad. For next year I hope there's gonna be enough snow but not too much.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FRA: &lt;i&gt;Cette photo satellite a été prise par ENVISAT le 18/02/2011. Celui-ci fût lancé en 2002 et est le plus gros engin d'observation terrestre jamais construit.. J'avais déjà eu recours à ces photos en 2007-2008 pour vérifier le remplissage du lac Eyre en Australie pour préparer la &lt;a href="http://simpson-desert-trek.blogspot.com/"&gt;traversée du désert de Simpson&lt;/a&gt;. On dirait qu'il y a un beau manteau neigeux. I hitchhiked today to Reykyavik after waiting 1h30 on the ring road. I am staying at the salvation army (where I met a Belgian friend of Pierre Soete, see last years' Everest expedition). I will put photos ad add text to the previous posts early August, stay tuned. I am very skinny but will fid a scale to know how much I've lost. I will also upload the entire GPS route (700 points or so) on my main website for download. Arriving in the capital, I was already in the news (online) as someone would have followed the blog. Tomorrow I will go to RUV TV studio for giving video and interview. I expect to meet Halldor Kvaran and the pulkahut then take the plane and arrive in Paris at 6.30 am on Monday and at work at 10 in Brussels. No vehicle to help, no fooddrops or preplaced foodcaches. He relies only on what I bring from the start.&lt;br /&gt;3.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Measure himself against the extreme elements/factors: wind, snow, cold, dehydration, exhaustion, loneliness, heat, rain, hail, whiteouts, "blackouts". This in order to learn how to survive into these elements.&lt;br /&gt;4.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; He performs scientific research on how his body/mental will evolve during this solo trip: Stress and decision taking in extreme environments is a recent subject being studied to prepare future astronauts who will be exploring Mars and beyond (&lt;a href="http://draft.blogger.com/%20http://iceland-trek.blogspot.com/2010/01/science-has-joined-in.html"&gt;more info here&lt;/a&gt;)&lt;br /&gt;The two last days were particularly dangerous and exhaustive with the crossing of the glacier due to bad weather conditions. He had to walk and slide very carefully on the top of the glacier and on small crests to avoid cracks. Pas de véhicule, pas de dépose de ravitaillement ou de cache de nourriture. Il a du marcher et glisser très prudemment du haut du glacier et sur les crêtes pour éviter les crevasses. It took him two days walking almost continuously with short sleeping break to achieve the crossing. Weather condition where very bad and progression was exhausting and probably one of the most difficult Louis-Philippe had accomplished for several years. &lt;br /&gt;Note: as communications have not been very good since two days, we don’t have many details but it will come soon…&lt;br /&gt;You can check his localization on the &lt;a href="http://iceland-trek.blogspot.com/2009/12/googleearth.html"&gt;map here&lt;/a&gt;. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;FRA: On the ice again…Louis-Philippe est venu à bout du Mýrdalsjökull (le sommet du glacier atteint 1493 m) et cela lui a pris deux jours à marcher presque en continue avec de courtes pauses de sommeil. Iceland is a wonderful field for exploration and no doubt that this summer trek is a very good start for preparing the winter adventure. &lt;br /&gt;Everything is all right few days before the arrival. There is still raining and the temperature is around 15°C during the day. His last position was N. 63°, 52’ 05’’ W. 18°, 56’ 07’’. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FRA : Concentré et persévérant sont les deux mots que Louis-Philippe garde à l’esprit chaque instant à l’approche de l’objectif final. This day, he stopped earlier in the evening than previous days because of a powerful and continuous rain and wind. It is the first time since his the beginning he has to suffer such weather conditions.&lt;br /&gt;Now he has left the glacier behind him, he progresses on a kind of rocky dust and rocks. Aujourd’hui il s’est arrêté plus tôt que les jours précédents en raison de fortes pluies et d’un vent assez puissant. Two important rivers gave him lot of difficulties and pain because of ice blocks as big as cars floating in the rivers. He evidently couldn’t cross them. So he had to walk around and it took him hours. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nevertheless he has this exciting feeling that very few people (maybe none…) walked there…&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FRA: Louis-Philippe continue sa progression sur l’un des plus grands glaciers d’’Europe: le Vatnajökull. Deux grosses rivières lui ont donné beaucoup de fil à retordre  à cause des blocs de glaces aussi gros qu’une voiture qui flottaient. Il n’a bien sûr pas pu les traverser et donc il a du les contourner durant des heures. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Cependant, il a ce sentiment excitant que très peu (voire peut être personne) de gens ont marché ici&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NL: Louis-Philippe zette zijn progressie voort  op één van de belangrijkste gletsjer van Europa: de Vatnajökull. Twee belangrijke rivieren gaven hem veel moeilijkheden en pijn omdat er  ijsblokken  drijven zo groot als auto’s.  Hij kon de rivieren duidelijk niet oversteken. He had to suffer of bruises on his right leg so immediately took rest and first basic care. When the night came, he was still wandered if he could continue the next morning. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No doubt that his strong determination helped his body to treat itself during the night. The next two days he walked at a good pace but now he has to cope with serious things: ice and water with the crossing of the Vatnajökull.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FRA :  Mercredi dernier, pendant la traverse d’un champ de lave, Louis-Philippe est tombé dans une crevasse. Il a souffert de contusions sur la jambe droite. Il s’est administré immédiatement les premiers soins et a pris du repos. Le soir avant de se coucher il se demandait encore s’il pourrait continuer le lendemain matin. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Assurément sa forte détermination a aidé son corps à se régénérer  durant la nuit. Les deux jours suivants il a avancé à un bon rythme mais maintenant il doit faire face à de sérieux défis : la glace et l’eau pour la traversée du Vatnajökull.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NL: Afgelopen Woensdag tijdens de overtocht van een lavaveld viel Louis-Philippe l in een spleet. Hij had kneuzingen aan zijn rechterbeen dus nam hij  onmiddellijk rust en verzorgde zichzelf. ‘Snachts vroeg hij zich nog steeds af of hij de volgende ochtend kon verder gaan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Geen twijfel dat zijn vastbesloten zijn lichaam heeft geholpen  om zichzelf te behandelen tijdens de nacht. It took him almost more than 4 hours to get out of it, but he was awarded by a source (water is still a daily preoccupation) and succeed to camp around 1 a.m. &lt;br /&gt;He appreciates a lot midges which are good travellers’ companions…But step by step he walk to reach his objective. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FRA: Traverse une magnifique plaine n’est pas le quotidien de Louis-Philippe ces jours ci. Du coup, il a réellement apprécié sa matinée d’hier surtout lorsqu’il a découvert que l’après midi serait consacrée à la traversée d’un immense champ de lave. Cela lui a pris plus de 4 heures pour s’en sortir mais il a été récompensé par la découverte d’une source (l’eau reste une préoccupation de tous les jours) and il a pu monter sa tente vers 1 heure du matin. Il apprécie beaucoup les midges qui sont de bons compagnons de voyage…Mais pas à pas, il marche pour atteindre son objectif. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NL : Wandelen over een mooie vlakte is niet het dagelijks leven van Louis-Philippe, hij waardeerde gisteremorgen  vooral toen hij ontdekte dat hij s’middag een gigantisch lava veld zou oversteken. Het kostte hem bijna meer dan 4 uur, maar hij werd beloond door een bron (water is nog steeds een dagelijkse zorg) en is erin geslaagd om te kamperen om 1 uur. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hij apprecieert  de  vele muggen, die goede reisgenoten zijn ... It seems that despite his wounded feet, Louis-Philippe adapt his body to his new environment. Still impressed by rocky fields and volcanos, he sometimes really has the felling of being on Mars. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FRA :  Le rythme de Louis-Philippe est désormais plus rapide depuis ces dernières heures qu'il y a encore quelques jours. C'est la preuve semble-t'il que son corps s'adapte, malgré ses pieds blessés, a son nouvel environnement. It is lucky because, as astonishing as it could be, Louis-Philippe has to suffer of the lack of water as it hasn’t rain for few days.&lt;br /&gt;The landscapes are beautiful and it strengthen his mental and willingness to continue (despite he has few delays on original schedule).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FRA : Louis-Philippe a attaint le point +65° 52’, -16°27’ à 10 km de Dettifoss, l’une des chutes d’eau les plus puissantes d’Europe. C’est heureux car, aussi étonnant que cela puisse paraître, Louis-Philippe a un peu souffert du manque d’eau ces derniers jours étant donné qu’il n’a pas plu depuis son départ. Les paysages sont magnifiques et cela renforce son mental et sa volonté de continuer (malgré le retard pris sur le planning de départ). &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NL : Louis-Phillipe heeft  merker +65 ° 52 ', -16 ° 27' bereikt,  slechts tien kilometers voor de Dettifoss, één van de meest krachtige watervallen in Europa. Louis-Philippe aurait certainement voulu avoir huit jambes hier pour traverser les rivières. En effet, les courants sont très puissants et il a du traverser une rivière par un pont pour éviter d’être gelé et emporté par le courant. Cela modifie un peu son itinéraire mais cela fait partie d’une expédition telle que celle-ci. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NL : De legende beweerde dat de kloof van Ásbyrgi gevormd is door het acht-benige paard van Odin toen hij aankwam op aarde ... Geen twijfel dat Louis-Philippe, die de kloof gisteren bereikt zou hebben, graag acht voeten zou hebben om de rivierern over te steken. Inderdaad, de stromen zijn krachtig en hij moest een rivier oversteken via een brug om te voorkomen dat hij bevroor en meegenomen werd. Son sac est lourd (il n’y aura pas de ravitaillement jusqu’à la fin de la traversée) et comme le terrain est très caillouteux il a un peu souffert des pieds et des genoux. Rien de sérieux pour le moment mais il sait qu’il doit être très prudent pour atteindre son but. Voorlopig niets ernstigs, maar hij weet dat hij zeer voorzichtig moet als hij zijn doel wilt bereiken. He is very enthusiastic, the landscapes are wonderful and adding the fact that the weather is beautiful (until next Wednesday), the expedition seems to be on a good path. He as planned to leave early on the morning just after packing the tent set up near to a strange kind of ghost house he discovered yesterday. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FRA : Louis-Philippe est arrivé dimanche soir à l’extrême point nord de l’Islande. Il est très enthousiaste, les paysages sont magnifiques et si l’on ajoute le fait que la météo devrait être au beau fixe jusqu’à mercredi, l’expédition semble bien démarrer. Il a prévu de partir tôt lundi matin juste après qu’il aura rangé sa tente qu’il a plantée à côté d’une sorte de maison fantôme. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NL : Louis-Philippe is Zondagavond aangekomen in het meest uiterste punt van Noord-Ijsland. Hij is erg enthousiast, de omgeving is prachtig en het ziet er naar uit dat het mooi weer zal zijn tot volgende week Woensdag dus de expeditie is goed begonnen. My Iceland Summer &amp;amp; Winter trek expedition is part of it as I will do cognitive tests under intense stress in extreme environment and possibly other studies on the effect of darkness while exploring new ground. I have carried out such scientific tests in my &lt;a href="http://simpson-desert-trek.blogspot.com/"&gt;Simpson desert expedition in 2008&lt;/a&gt;. The Simpson is for NASA also a very good simulation terrain for Mars and Iceland as well. The forthcoming movie in 2011 "&lt;a href="http://vimeo.com/12359241"&gt;Passage to Mars (trailer)&lt;/a&gt;" will certainly inspire a lot of teenagers. I hope my expedition will inspire too !&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;FRA: &lt;i&gt;L'année 2011 va certainement commencer a faire prendre conscience au public que les aventures polaires et extrêmes sont une source d'enseignements pour préparer l'exploration de la planète Mars. Mon trek-expédition en Islande été et hiver en fait partie puisque je vais effectuer des tests cognitifs pour sous stress intense en environnement extrême et probablement d'autres études sur l'effet de l'obscurité lorsque je progresserai seul sur l'île. J'avais effectué ces tests scientifiques lors de mon &lt;/i&gt;&lt;a href="http://simpson-desert-trek.blogspot.com/"&gt;&lt;i&gt;expédition dans le désert de Simpson en 2008&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;i&gt;. Ce désert étant un excellent terrain de simulation de Mars pour la NASA tout comme l'Islande. Le film "&lt;/i&gt;&lt;a href="http://vimeo.com/12359241"&gt;&lt;i&gt;Passage to Mars (BA)&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;i&gt;" débarquant sur nos écrans en 2011 va certainement inspirer beaucoup de jeunes. J'espère que mon expédition aussi !&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NL: Volgend jaar is zeker het jaar waarin het publiek kennis opgedaan tijdens Polar en extreme avonturen zal gebruiken om voor te bereiden op de komende Mars expedities. Mijn zomer en winter trektocht door IJsland is hievan een onderdeel omdat ik zal meedoen aan cognitieve testen onder intense stress en in een extreme omgeving. Eventueel zal ik ook meedoen metandere studies die het effect van duisternis op het verkennen van nieuw terrein zullen bestuderen. Ik heb deze wetenschappelijke testen al eerder uitgevoerd tijdens mijn &lt;/i&gt;&lt;a href="http://simpson-desert-trek.blogspot.com/"&gt;&lt;i&gt; Simpson woestijn expeditie in 2008&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;i&gt;. De Simpson is voor NASA, Mars en Ijsland ook een heel goed simulatie terrein. De komende film van 2011 "&lt;a href="http://vimeo.com/12359241"&gt;Passage to Mars (trailer)&lt;/a&gt;" zullen zeker veel tieners inspireren. Here a small video. Apparently I had bad snow conditions according to the locals. She's developing the study research to do during this expedition. She said she could count on me to undergo a lot of tests as I was a good labrat for experiments, assiduous, serious and smiling. The smile will probably fade away in the dark cold whiteouts but that's part of the experiment. I'm really longing on what she'll come up with as I asked to take blood samples to check how my body will break up. I checked the weather in Iceland and even if I'll have an average of 2-4 hours of sun per day, with the clouds, the average amount of light reaching the ground for the entire month of January is 6 hours. OMG!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;FRA: à traduire&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NL: Ik heb een aantal keer gemaild met Cécile Vallet vandaag, ze zou zeer graag terug met mij werken. Ze is studies aan het ontwikkelen voor tijdens de expeditie. Ze zei dat ze op mij kon rekenen om een groot aantal testen te ondergaan omdat ik een goede labrat voor experimenten ben: ijverig, ernstig en glimlachend. De glimlach zal waarschijnlijk verdwijnen in de donkere koude whiteouts maar dat is deel van het experiment. Ik ben echt benieuwd over de experimenten want ik heb gevraagd om bloedmonsters te nemen om te kijken hoe mijn lichaam zal reageren. Ik controleerde het weer in IJsland en zelfs als ik een gemiddelde van 2-4 uur zon per dag heb is, met de wolken, de gemiddelde hoeveelheid licht die de grond gedurende de  maand januari bereikt ongeveer 6 uur. He give me a few tips and lots a books to read so I can boost my knowledge about polar travel but of course it won't replace experience on the field. For the &lt;a href="http://simpson-desert-trek.blogspot.com/"&gt;Simpson desert trek&lt;/a&gt;, I received my gear 3 days before taking the plane to Australia, the &lt;a href="http://simpson-desert-trek.blogspot.com/2008/07/wish-him-luck.html"&gt;Camwheel desert cart&lt;/a&gt; was ready and shipped also 3 days before leaving. My physical training was not more than 40 hours. But for Iceland, I'll need more training as in the cold gear breaks faster and I won't have much water supplies like in the desert so knowing how to use a stove is capital. The Iceland trek challenge I've set is very ambitious, even the unsupported summer part will be very challenging as I planned an average of 30km walking distance per day in a not so flat country. Like always, I know it's possible, I just have to find out if I can do it. These are the brilliant creative ideas I like to overcome problems and aiming at bagging a world first. Most of adventures on the ice involve breaking an age or speed record. In my opinion, true exploration is bringing something new in terms of concept, route, science or pioneering in a remote or not often seen area. This is exactly why I like Cameron's expeditions. I contacted him in September and he's been already providing advices. IT will be a solo trek. No vehicle to help, no fooddrops or preplaced foodcaches. I will rely only on what I bring from the start.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Measure myself against the extreme elements/factors: wind, snow, cold, dehydration, exhaustion, loneliness, heat, rain, hail, whiteouts, "blackouts", ... and hopefully no waking up of volcanoes. This in order to learn how to survive into these elements.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Perform scientific research on how my body/mental will evolve during both solo trips: Stress and decision taking in extreme environments is a recent subject being studied to prepare future astronauts who will be exploring Mars and beyond. How will I be affected by walking during the summer in full daylight/twilight and during the winter in &lt;b&gt;complete darkness&lt;/b&gt;/twilight.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;Optional goals I hope to reach:&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Take several photos from defined landscapes during both seasons at exactly the same place to have a wonderful idea of the contrast between winter and summer. A very interesting photo exhibition can then organized in several countries interested by the concept. Maybe a photo book related to the exhibition could be printed. Photos of wildlife is also interesting. Remark: the winter challenge will be very hard for photography as I won't have much light. A third supported trip in later winter (March) will probably be added with the only purpose of taking photos to complete the contrasted landscape photos.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Shoot HD to make a documentary.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Take notes for a future book and articles about the 2 trips.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Develop a new lightweight pulka that can be also a sleep device aka the "sleeppulka". With a fast set up, stronger than a tent and attached/part of the pulka, such a gear would help polar scientists or other explorers to be safer and survive storms. A glaciologist friend told me this would be a great tool for them. Remark: numerous expeditions fail because of tents destroyed by wind or fire, I expect the sleeppulka to resist this. So what drives me to do this one compared to the previous 5 expeditions ?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Generally speaking:&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;First I like to discover new environments, so a polar journey&amp;nbsp;is new for me(&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"&gt;well actually it is not a polar journey as I'll start roughly 3 km from the Arctic circle and go further south away from it.&lt;/span&gt;).&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I like to switch environments. Jungle, desert, mountains, now cold places and later oceans or space.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;New skills: I need to learn everything possible about polar journeys and techniques : nordic ski touring, hauling a sled or pulka, cooking in the cold, how to deal with the cold and frostbites, ... New gear, new techniques, new fun !&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Why this expedition in Iceland?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Who doesn't want to visit Iceland, seriously ? anyone ?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I don't know much about polar-ski journeys and I expect to learn heaps from this adventure.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I have often been walking in the dark in my previous expeditions, always taking into account the date I was leaving to be able to count on my mistress (the moon) to help me with some extra light to progress safely and longer. I'm excited to have an almost full expedition in the dark.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I like to leave questions unanswered before leaving: how will I react in the dark and in the cold ? An expedition where you know exactly what will happen at a certain time is called a guided tour. I like to leave surprises and see how I will face every daily challenge.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;FEAR. Am I nuts to go alone, in the dark and cold in extreme environment ? I believe that confronting my fears will help me to grow up and help me to find new resources that I can later share with people to help in their daily life. Fear is feeling that keeps you aware, awake, alert and help to avoid accidents by staying cautious. Being too confident means one is taking more risks &amp;nbsp;Exploration is also inside.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;This expedition is about minimizing the maximum risk and answering this question: Can a young explorer make it unsupported across the country in all the above not so easy conditions? The only way to answer the question is to try. The only way to be successful is to work hard by being prepared and prepared to find solutions avoiding a rescue or a disaster.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;As you can read in the goals, I'm really keen to work again with a scientist to perform cognitive tests and possibly other tests as well. So I hope I can help the economy in a way and especially tourist who'll go outdoors and enjoy the vast wild landscape by going on a trek.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Most of the Icelanders want to join the European Union and IcelandAir announced last July that they'll start flying to and from Brussels from June 2010 onwards.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I've seen too much of the country in digital, I need to see it asap !&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;div&gt;FRA: à traduire.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;NL: Het is een vraag die veel mensen vragen. Wat drijft mij om dit te doen in vergelijking met de vorige 5 expedities? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In het algemeen: &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;    * Ten eerste ondek ik graag nieuwe omgevingen,  een polar reis is nieuw voor mij (nou ja eigenlijk is het niet een polar reis als ik ongeveer 3 kilometer zal starten vanaf de poolcirkel en verder richting het zuiden trek.). &lt;br /&gt;    * Ik hou ervan om van omgeving te wisselen. Jungle, woestijn, bergen, nu koude plaatsen  en later de oceaan of de ruimte. &lt;br /&gt;    * Nieuwe vaardigheden: ik zou graag alles leren over polar reizen en technieken: Nordic Ski Touring, trekken met een slee of pulka, koken in de kou, hoe het best omgaan met de koude en frostbites, ... nieuw materiaal, nieuwe technieken, nieuwe fun! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Waarom deze expeditie in IJsland? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;    * Wie wil niet IJsland bezoeken, serieus? Iedereen toch? &lt;br /&gt;    * Ik weet niet veel over Polar-ski reizen en ik hoop veel te leren van dit avontuur. &lt;br /&gt;    * Ik heb vaak gewandeld in het donker in mijn vorige expedities, altijd rekening houdend met de datum waarop ik zou vertrekken om zo te kunnen rekenen op mijn mistress (de maan) om mij te helpen met wat extra licht om veiliger vooruit te geraken. Ik kijk er naar uit om een (bijna) volledige expeditie in het donker te gaan doen.&lt;br /&gt;    * Ik laat graag vragen onbeantwoord voor ik vertrek: hoe moet ik reageren in het donker en in de kou? Een expeditie waar je precies weet wat er zal gebeuren op een bepaalde tijd heet een rondleiding. Ik hou van verrassingen om zo te zien hoe ik elke dag weer aan uitdaging word geconfronteerd. &lt;br /&gt;    * BANG ZIJN. Ben ik zot om alleen te gaan, in het donker en koud in een extreme omgeving? Ik denk dat het confronteren van mijn angsten mij zal helpen in het zoekn naar nieuwe middelen die ik later zou kunnen delen met mensen en gebruiken om mensen te helpen in hun dagelijks. Angst is het gevoel dat u alert en wakker houdt en u daarbom ook helpt bij het voorkomen van ongevallen door voorzichtig te blijven. Het hebben van te veel vertrouwen leidt naar het nemen van meer risico’s. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;    * Deze expeditie is over het minimaliseren van het maximale risico en het beantwoorden van deze vraag: Kan een jonge verkenner het land doorkruisen in al de bovengenoemde niet zo makkelijke omstandigheden? De enige manier om de vraag te beantwoorden is om te proberen. De enige manier om succesvol te zijn is hard werken door goed voorbereid te zijn en door bereid te vermijden dat er zich een reddingspoging of ramp voordoet. &lt;br /&gt;    * Zoals u kunt lezen in mijn sgoal, kijk ik er echt naar uit om weer te werken met een wetenschapper om cognitieve testen en eventueel ook andere tests uit te voeren. Meer over dit later, wanneer  ik haar voorstel krijgen. &lt;br /&gt;    * En natuurlijk, het is altijd leuk om toch ergens de eerste ter wereld te zijn, niet? Er is niets mis met trots zijn op wat je doet als je succesvol bent. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Waarom nu? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;    * IJsland is in het nieuws geweest sinds de grote bank crisis en ik ben er zeker van dat praten over IJsland ervoor zal zorgen dat er meer toeristen naar toe gaan.
